Horse Racing at KeenelandKentucky's Keeneland Race Course is a National Historic Landmark, and has conducted live races in April and October since 1936. Jack Keene, for whom Keeneland is named, was an extraordinary figure in American racing, and helped revive the industry during the 1930s when it was ailing. The track has kept its racing traditions intact for several decades; it was the last track in North America to broadcast race calls over its public-address system. Keeneland was used to shoot most of the racing scenes of the 2003 movie Seabiscuit. Races at Keeneland Race Course are held Wednesday-Sunday from April-October. The track hosts several annual racing events including the Blue Grass Stakes and the Phoenix Handicap.
