Opened in 1990, Kentucky Downs racetrack is located in Franklin, Kentucky. The track is a European-style course — its surface is all turf (grass) not dirt, and it is not oval in shape.

The Park was renamed as Kentucky Downs and in 1998 fortunes turned after the Kentucky Cup Festival was announced.

In 2009, the track was ranked #2 out of 65 thoroughbred racetracks in North America by the Horseplayers Association of North America.
