Horse Racing at SaratogaOpened in 1863 Saratoga Race Course is the oldest organized sporting venue in the United States. The race course is known as the "Graveyard of Champions" as many an upset has happened here. Man o' War suffered his only defeat in twenty one starts while racing at Saratoga Race Course. Triple Crown winner, Secretariat lost and Gallant Fox was bested by 100-1 longshot Jim Dandy in the 1930 Travers Stakes. Currently, Saratoga offers forty days of racing usually running from July to September. The annual racing schedule includes Grade I Stakes races such as the Alabama Stakes, Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap, Ballerina Handicap, Hopeful Stakes and Coaching Club American Oaks, as well as Grade II Stakes races.
